We awoke Thursday morning to Glory birthing her pups! She is such a great mom and had no problems at all giving birth to her brood of 5 pups within a few hours! She was about 3 days earlier than expected but we were ready! All the pups latched on well and started gaining weight.
On Friday night, we could tell that Glory's milk was not coming in fast enough to satisfy the pups hunger, so out came the formula and bottles! All the pups got supplemental feeds on Friday night and again...Read Full Post »

It's been a few quiet months here at the Strickland Homestead! We have 2 girls due in the next 12 days! We have quite a wait list for the pups and I sure hope they pop out lots of female pups!
Princess, our tiny (2lb) 6 month old girl is still living with us as the proper home has not yet been found. What a ball of fire! She is quite demanding and lives up to her name. It's going to be difficult to let her go, but if the right family comes along, I will know she wil...Read Full Post »

Well it's been a while since I updated you! But we have kept busy with all the "puppy chores". Holly's 2 girls are doing great-10oz and 12oz at 6 weeks of age-they are adorable! Today we started them on puppy chow moistened in milk. They are loving it!
Dixie's boys are bruisers! They are going to be 8lb or so as adults-must be a recessive gene, but you couldn't ask for more adorable kids. They are spending the days on the back porch so they have room to run and play! They are joined by...Read Full Post »

Our third litter finally arrived June 29th. Holly had 2 little girls! One was extremely tiny at 2.4oz! The good news is that she is thriving and finally broke 4oz! She has a great appetite and great sucking instinct.
In the meantime-Glory's pups are doing great-one smaller girl looks like she may stay the smallest of all the pups! Glory is a great mom. Dixie is taking very good care of her kids and is very attentive-when not in her pen with them, she prefers to lay on ...Read Full Post »

So much for uneventful days! Dixie was due on June 21st, but she blessed us with 4 puppies on June 19th. She could have waited until a bit later than 4:30am, but when nature calls..... She birthed 2 girls and 2 boys, all of them over 5oz! She has been a great Mom. All her pups are gaining weight and she stays in the pens with them without a complaint!
Then Glory, not to be outdone by Dixie, decided to have her pups two days early on June 25th. She waited until a respecta...Read Full Post »

It's been an eventful week! All the new parents have been here to visit and start the bonding process with their new "kids"! In the iterim, Kahlua has started to develop mastitis and her milk production is dropping "uh-oh"! Not to worry, the first thing we do is to get out the bottles and buy some fresh milk replacer. We start to bottle feed the pups as a supplement. We are paying special attention to "Scout", our littlest pup, who at only 8oz, needs to be watch carefully so that she gains we...Read Full Post »

It's been a very uneventful 12 days! We like that! All the pups are gaining weight and we are starting to see the eyes opening. Usually the eyes open on day 14-looks like we have some early learners here-both Scout and Skipper's eyes opened on day 12! Still waiting on the larger females eyes to pop open!
So far the weights are Skipper 11 1/4 oz, Scout 7 3/8 oz and the larger female 10 3/4 oz! We are looking forward to the next few weeks, can't wait to play with the pups. The only...Read Full Post »

Well, our short time of relaxing is over---Kahlua had her pups on Thursday. Two Girls and One Boy! I took them for their tail dockings and dew claw removal on Saturday. They are gaining weight daily and Kahlua is an awesome mom! Kahlua was scheduled for her grooming on the day she gave birth, so Sunday I was finally able to give her a haircut. I think she really enjoyed shedding some of her hair and the pups will find it much easier to nurse with her tummy shaved. &...Read Full Post »

It's been a quiet few weeks-No puppies to care for, but a nursing conference in Las Vegas, along with visiting our kids that reside there, gave us some down time. But it's back to work shortly-Kahlua is due on Friday! We then have Glory and Dixie due the next month!
So stay tuned for all the updates shortly!

I'm a bit behind on posting due to a few family emergencies, but be assured, the pups have been growing fast and have had lots of hands on time! It amazes me time after time, to see how fast the pups grow and mature! It never gets old!
The pups are now 5 weeks old and are becomng a handful for Abigail. The teeth are starting to come in and the "kids" are getting rowdy. She is content to go into the puppy pens and feed them, then get out and relax! She still spends the night with her pu...Read Full Post »
