It's been an eventful week! All the new parents have been here to visit and start the bonding process with their new "kids"! In the iterim, Kahlua has started to develop mastitis and her milk production is dropping "uh-oh"! Not to worry, the first thing we do is to get out the bottles and buy some fresh milk replacer. We start to bottle feed the pups as a supplement. We are paying special attention to "Scout", our littlest pup, who at only 8oz, needs to be watch carefully so that she gains weight and doesn't get pushed away by her bigger siblings!
In the meantime, a dear friend of mine, Lynne Schooley, e-mails me about her new litter and I tell her my troubles. Not only does she volunteer her nursing female, Ginger, to assist-she allows me to bring Ginger and her 2 pups to my home!
Ginger is now settled in with her pups April and Ashley (they are 10 days older than my pups) and everyone is nursing well! We are still supplementing with a bottle as it takes a while for the milk production to increase, but she has now "adopted" my pups as her own! YEAH!! We allow Kahlua to visit and snuggle with her pups and she gets special treats and attention to help her adapt! She will be retiring after her litter is weaned!
