We awoke Thursday morning to Glory birthing her pups! She is such a great mom and had no problems at all giving birth to her brood of 5 pups within a few hours! She was about 3 days earlier than expected but we were ready! All the pups latched on well and started gaining weight.
On Friday night, we could tell that Glory's milk was not coming in fast enough to satisfy the pups hunger, so out came the formula and bottles! All the pups got supplemental feeds on Friday night and again on Sat morning.
We were off to the Vet Sat am for the tail dockings and dew claw removals. Also a good exam for Glory to be sure no complications were brewing. All the pups did great on the dockings but were not happy to have mom removed for 3 hours afterwards to prevent her undoing the great job the vet did on the tails! But another bottle feeding after we arrived home seemed to quiet them down. Oxytocin was administered to Glory and several doses sent home to be given over the next 2 days. This will help stimulate her milk production and make her pups very happy!
I am happy to report that the oxytocin did its magic and her milk is satisfying all the little tummies and the are all continuing to gain weight!
